The Scottish Borders

The Scottish Borders is an area of great contrasts from soft rolling hills to spectacular rugged coastline. Traces of Iron age forts and tower houses that once held out against English raiders are to be found in the area and on Thirlestane itself. Several stately homes and country mansions including Thirlestane Castle just outside Lauder attract many to the area.

The Scottish Borders landscape naturally lends itself to outdoor activities. Walking attracts many to the Borderlands. The Southern Upland Way crosses the farm on its way across the Lammermuir Hills to Cockburnspath.  Other activities include fishing, cycling, golf and horse riding. Horses play a major part in Scottish Borders life whether it be hunting or horse racing at Kelso or Musselburgh, the local Common Ridings or eventing.

The famous rugby towns of Melrose, Selkirk, Galashiels, Hawick, Jedburgh & Kelso each host their own Seven-A-Side rugby tournaments each year, again attracting many visitors to the Scottish Borders.  Similarly the annual Jim Clark Memorial Rally sees rallying fans enjoy thrilling races through the Borders forests. The late Formula One World Champion lived near Duns which holds a museum celebrating his many achievements.

Thirlestane offers a great base for your holiday in Scotland with plenty to do and see locally and also within easy travelling of Northumberland, Edinburgh and the Lothians, Fife and Perthshire.

Easy access to all Border towns and only 26 miles to the centre of Scotland's beautiful capital city of Edinburgh.

Thirlestane Farm makes a great stop on your tour of Scotland whether its to Edinburgh, Fife or the Highlands be it by car, cycling or walking.
